Evaluating employees

RE: Quotes Taken from actual performance evaluations:

“Since my last report, this employee has reached rock bottom and has started to dig.”

“His men would follow him anywhere, but only out of morbid curiosity.”

“I would not allow this employee to breed.”

“This associate is really not so much of a has-been, but more of a definitely won’t be.”

“Works well when under constant supervision and cornered like a rat in a trap.”

“When she opens her mouth, it seems that this is only to change whichever foot was previously in there.”

“He would be out of his depth in a parking lot puddle.”

“This young lady has delusions of adequacy.”

“He sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.”

“This employee should go far - and the sooner he starts, the better.”

“This employee is depriving a village somewhere of an idiot.”

Hello… Yes, I’d like to order two medium pepperoni pizzas please, with extra cheese… Oh, did I get the wrong number? Sorry about that. (Click.)

You might be a redneck if

You might be a reneck if…

Duct tape and wire are the only two things holding your truck together.

Your bumper sticker reads “If you’re missing your cat, look in my treads. ”

You think the Gettysburg Address is where Lincoln lived.

You’ve ever parked your date next to a YIELD sign hoping she’d take the hint.

Your kids learned to shoot before they learned to walk.

You place a classified asking less than $1.

You think the freeway is the back door of the movie theater.

Higher math means counting over 10.

The lake has to be restocked after you take a bath.

You have a lucky rabbit’s foot in your pocket and a lucky rabbit nailed above your fireplace.

Advice From Men To Women

…Never buy a ‘new’ brand of beer because ‘it was on sale.’

…If we’re in the backyard and the TV in the den is on, that doesn’t mean we’re not watching it.

…Don’t tell anyone we can’t afford a new car. Tell them we don’t want one.

…Whenever possible please try to say whatever you have to say during commercials.

…Please don’t drive when you’re not driving.

…Don’t feel compelled to tell us how all the people in your stories are related to one another: We’re just nodding, waiting for the punchline.

…The quarterback who just got pummeled isn’t trying to be brave. He’s just not crying. Big difference!

…When the waiter asks if everything’s okay, a simple ‘Yes’ is fine.

Refrigerate elephants

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Analysis:
1. Differentiate it and put into the refrig. Then integrate it in the refrig.
2. Redefine the measure on the referigerator (or the elephant).
3. Apply the Banach-Tarsky theorem.

Number theory:
1. First factorize, second multiply.
2. Use induction. You can always squeeze a bit more in.

Algebra:
1. Step 1. Show that the parts of it can be put into the refrig. Step 2. Show that the refrig. is closed under the addition.
2. Take the appropriate universal refrigerator and get a surjection from refrigerator to elephant.

Topology:
1. Have it swallow the refrig. and turn inside out.
2. Make a refrig. with the Klein bottle.
3. The elephant is homeomorphic to a smaller elephant.
4. The elephant is compact, so it can be put into a finite collection of refrigerators. That’s usually good enough.
5. The property of being inside the referigerator is hereditary. So, take the elephant’s mother, cremate it, and show that the ashes fit inside the refrigerator.
6. For those who object to method 3 because it’s cruel to animals. Put the elephant’s BABY in the refrigerator.

Algebraic topology:
Replace the interior of the refrigerator by its universal cover, R^3.

Linear algebra:
1. Put just its basis and span it in the refrig.
2. Show that 1% of the elephant will fit inside the refrigerator. By linearity, x% will fit for any x.

Affine geometry:
There is an affine transformation putting the elephant into the refrigerator.

Set theory:
1. It’s very easy! Refrigerator = { elephant } 2) The elephant and the interior of the refrigerator both have cardinality c.

Geometry:
Declare the following:
Axiom 1. An elephant can be put into a refrigerator.

Complex analysis:
Put the refrig. at the origin and the elephant outside the unit circle. Then get the image under the inversion.

Numerical analysis:
1. Put just its trunk and refer the rest to the error term.
2. Work it out using the Pentium.

Statistics:
1. Bright statistician. Put its tail as a sample and say “Done.”
2. Dull statistician. Repeat the experiment pushing the elephant to the refrig.
3. Our NEW study shows that you CAN’T put the elephant in the refrigerator.

Unlocking your car

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Two blondes were recently observed in a parking lot trying to unlock the door of their Mercedes with a coat hanger. Here is their dialogue:

Blonde One: I can’t seem to get this door unlocked!

Blonde Two: Well, you’d better hurry up and try harder! it’s starting to rain, and the top is down!

The pre-birth class

Friday, December 14th, 2007

When our second child was on the way, my wife and I attended a pre-birth class aimed at couples who had already had at least one child.

The instructor raised the issue of breaking the news to the older child. It went like this:

“Some parents,” she said, “tell the older child, ‘We love you so much we decided to bring another child into this family.’ But think about that. Ladies, what if your husband came home one day and said, ‘Honey, I love you so much I decided to bring home another wife.’”

One of the women spoke up immediately. “Does she cook???”
